Novel of the year 1996 in Aftenposten!
Uno, Kaja and Endre met already as children, when their parents spent their vacations by the sea to the south of Oslo. Since then their paths cross many times, on excavations site in the Oslo old town, on meetings and demonstrations within the maoist movement, through love and infidelity, on a study trip to China, and on nostalgic weekend excursions to the holiday paradise of their childhood – until Endre, now a doctor, one night in 1995 is called to assist at an accident he can’t distance himself from.
Shortly afterwards Endre starts taking notes. It is the more than 40 year long story of the trio he is forced to examine, what actually happened, what was the truth and what was a lie, and how something could go so completely wrong. The Innermost Room is a generational novel, but also a romantic novel, where love is measured against passion, trust and understanding.
