My Life as a Sheep Farmer
Kjell Ola Dahl always knew he had the hereditary right to the farm Torgunrud, where he spent his childhood holidays. But he did not plan to take over the farm until he fell in love with Marit, who is a gardener. Their fascination with flower cultivation leads them to envision life on a smallholding, and a series of circumstances brings them back to Torgunrud.
Twenty years later, when he sets out to write about life as a sheep farmer, he also uncovers aspects of the family history that have until now remained in the dark. The farm that has brought prosperity and bonded the family together has also been a source of dispute and a sorrow that has not been spoken about. My Life as a Sheep Farmer is a story about the close relationship between the farmer and the animals, about daily life on the farm, about the work methods of previous generations, about the relationship between father and son, and about finding one’s place in history by attempting to write it.
