The Second World War rages across Europe. Norwegian Daniel Berkåk works as a courier for the media and military office in Stockholm. With his bag full of coded documents and newspapers, he is sent on a mission across the Norwegian-Swedish border. The delivery never makes it. Daniel is shot and killed on the Norwegian side of the border, and the documents disappear. The exiled Norwegian authorities want to get to the bottom of what happened to him, and the task is given to the well-known author Jomar Kraby, who faces a dangerous mission of discovery.
“There are many reasons why this novel is successful. One of them is the distinct and clear prose, where the dialogues are read and experienced as if they were conversations the reader listens to. A shifting drive between places and people as the action progresses by own machine, is another. Solid historical and geographical research and a vivid portrait of Stockholm at the time of war, is a third.” – Leif Ekle, NRK
