In the Days of Tom Bergmann
In IN THE DAYS OF TOM BERGMANN, Hoem tells the story of the prodigal ship owner’s son Thomas Bergmann, who starts hanging out with bohemians and radicals in Bergen, who cuts all ties to his family and goes to sea. A young man who is bought out of the family firm, and who seems to be in the position to do whatever he wants. But Thomas Bergmann is looking for a deeper meaning in life and seeks refuge in art and philosophy.
IN THE DAYS OF TOM BERGMANN is a novel which largely takes place in the 80s outside Norway. It is a novel of the transformation of Europe, of a business world full of optimism, of business empires that rise and crash, of people fleeing from the east to the west, and values being reconsidered, and not least love, earth-shattering and difficult love.
In the midst of this Thomas Bergmann realizes that he has something to achieve, that there are tasks waiting for him, and that now is the time to act.
