Henry lives alone in the apartment he grew up in. He spends his days walking around a nearby lake, with a camera and a pair of binoculars around his neck. To everybody else he looks like a perfectly ordinary birdwatcher. But the small wonder he so patiently is waiting to see is a girl called Regine.
Somewhere else in the neighbourhood Elisabeth is walking about in the house she recently moved in to. She puts apples in the fireplace to make the room smell of apples, and lights candles on the window sills to welcome her daughter back in the evening. Elisabeth is a mature woman, astonished at having succeeded in creating a completely new life for herself after her divorce. She has a beautiful home, a devoted boyfriend and a fulfilling job. But the centre of her existence is her daughter Regine.
Henry and Elisabeth have nothing to do with each other. Step by step, and in deepest secrecy one of them starts exploring the world of the other.
THE WING THIEF is a story of fascination and self deception in people’s attempts to love, of being observed and of liberating oneself from the gaze of others.
