Fourteen-year-old Elisa does not get on very well with her mother, but she is deeply attached to her grandmother. Then her grandmother dies, leaving Elisa a letter and a photograph of a delightful little spot called Bjerkebakk. Elisa begins to delve into the past. There is something the grown-ups in her life have never told her, something about herself and who she is.
