It’s winter 2009. Jahn Christoffersen – new driver and grenadier in the Telemark battalion – is due to escort a truck convoy carrying emergency supplies through one of the most dangerous areas of Northern Afghanistan along with 50 other Norwegian soldiers. They are surprised by a violent attack, their cargo is stolen, and two Norwegian soldiers die. One of them is Oskar, Jahn’s best friend. Jahn has a nervous breakdown and is sent home to Norway.
Rumours begin to spread among the soldiers in Camp Meymaneh in Afghanistan and eventually reach Jahn. What was being transported in the trucks, who attacked the convoy, and why was the cargo stolen? What did the Norwegian soldiers give their lives for?
Jahn gets drunk in the graveyard and lays empty cartridges from the bullets he shot at the enemy on his friend’s grave. There and then he makes a decision – he enters into a death pact.
