The Loneliness

Ketil Bjørnstad

Violinist Susanne Hvasser and double bass player Oscar Enger are musicians in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In the late summer of 2012 Susanne is forced to make some important decisions when her secret affair is discovered by her lover’s wife. Oscar, on his side, lives alone after his infidelities over many years have been uncovered. Suddenly one day Oscar sees Susanne in a whole new light. This is a possible new start for both of them, but will the experiences of the past help them to find what they are both longing for?

The Loneliness is a novel about people with a past; a story about love’s labyrinths; about daring to acknowledge oneself without denying the most uncomfortable aspects. What governs our desires and our passions? What makes us understand that we are living a different life than the one we really want?

The Loneliness is a powerful tale of infidelity and secret double lives.
