Masters the art of making a classic out of a relevant complex issue … It is possibly only Endre Lund Eriksen […] who with so much humour, seriousness and breadth can make something so cool out of puberty, identity, divorce and sexual orientation.
Cathrine Krøger, Dagbladet
One of the fascinating things about Endre Lund Eriksen is that he takes difficult questions, wrings the maximum amount of embarrassment out of them, and ends up with a comic result.
Morten Olsen Haugen, Aftenposten
This was a wonderful children’s novel! Youthful lack of confidence and excess confidence are both treated with great respect, and the same with its theme of homosexuality. Endre Lund Eriksen manages to describe how repulsive Arvidsjaur finds the troublesome Indiane, who is brimming with hormones, and how problematic love can be, completely independent of sex and age. Through this diary we get to know Arvidsjaur’s thoughts intimately, and the mood and language of the novel is liberatingly free and easy.
Solgunn Solli, Altaposten
The Summer Dad Turned Gay is an exciting novel about awakening sexuality, about experimentation, about anxiety, curiosity and falling in love. The story is exciting, frankly riveting, even for the adult reader. Above all, Lund Eriksen deserves praise for writing about real situations, identity crises and the changes that both adults and children can experience. Lund Eriksen plays down the distinction between straight and gay Dad. Because so what? Dad is Dad no matter what …
Linda Kaspersen, Nordlys
The book is about identity crises, puberty and divorce. These heavy and often suppressed issues thrive in this novel, and are light and humorous … Lund Eriksen makes what is difficult a little easier for the youths in his novels, especially because they are adept at describing things in words and also at laughing … Arvidsjaur’s relationship with Indiane becomes important, and the friendship is a big part of the story. It doesn’t pick much at the greater injuries, but paints a picture of a humorous survival strategy in the form of a diary, which works very well.
