Soledad wakes up on the island where she is spending her summer holiday to discover that she is alone. Her father, neighbours and other people on the island have disappeared, and she starts suspecting that a big light in the sky has obliterated almost all life on the Norwegian west coast.

Days go by, and Soladad does what she can to cope. At the same time, she tries to figure out what happened to everyone. She manages to row across to the mainland and stumbles upon other survivors.
