Reptile Memoirs
«A daringly original writer»
The Times, UK
«The best Norwegian crime debut in years»
Adresseavisa
Krypdyrmemoarer, Silje O. Ulstein’s debut novel has gained widespread attendion already before its Norwegian publication and was instantly preempted in three territories.
The novel is a dark, daring and highly original psychological thriller about shame, loneliness and forbidden desires, in which the author explores whether it is possible to shed ones skin and become someone else entirely. The story plays out and shifts between two time-levels: The early 2000’s where three flat-mates in their twenties decide to get a baby tiger python as pet. And 2017, where an 11-year old girl goes missing.
Gutkind publisher Jacob Søndergaard:
A stranglehold of a thriller. Finally an addition to the genre that defies every cliche and that with its originality and glowing prose, sets a new standard for what the reader can expect from a psychological suspense novel. «Krypdyrmemoarer» is brave, ambitous, intense and deeply terrifying.
Maria Såthe, Literary Director Wahlström & Widstrand:
«Krypdyrmemoarer” is a masterful, disturbing and incredibly well-written psychologial thriller, with a story that plays out on two parallel levels. One is lineary, completely realistic and solid, the other coiling, evasive and nightmare-like. Together, they form a novel that is engrossing, terrifying, exhilerating and-until the very end, completely unpredictable.
