Letter is a novel about an intense and all-consuming loss, in the shape of a love letter. The writer is a man, alone in his flat in Berlin. The receiver, a woman. She is all he wants, all he can think of, but she isn’t there. He writes to endure the two or three months they will be apart. He wants to fill every hour with writing. He writes about his longing for her, for her body. He writes about alcohol, tobacco, lack of food, lack of money. His gaze is directed inwards, into himself, towards his own past and towards the reunion between the two that will come.
Letter is a dark, at times desperate novel, written in raw, immediate prose.
