Final Act
Torill has been the great diva of the theatre world for decades. Now she has accepted a final role, a proper farewell, after her previous farewell performance petered out in a dour tour of small-town Norway a few years back. But this time things will be different. This autumn will belong to her.
Torill’s daughter Rut grew up practically inside her mother’s wardrobe at the National Theatre, but she herself hasn’t been on a stage since she got pregnant with a director during her final year at the National Theatre Academy. The relationship between mother and daughter is faltering, the #metoo rebellion is boiling everywhere, and some of her old friends are looking to put the spotlight on Rut’s story – against her will.
Final Act is a sharp, wistful, complex novel about losing control over your own story, and about winning it back.
