    Yes, yes, I know many will protest – most will protest. Throughout our lives, we’re constantly told that love endures all things, believes all things, hopes all things, bears all things; I’m sorry if I’m shattering anyone’s illusions, but it’s a lie. And I speak from experience.
    I’m about to get further proof.

This is how the novel about Thomas Hegel begins; he has two professions. He investigates infidelity and writes song lyrics, and he knows full well that there is no language for love. The novel is rich, elegant and gripping – at times a sort of spy novel, at times a romance, at times a declaration of love to Oslo, but never just one of these things. And as for its protagonist: he’s not easy to pin down.
